An Evaluation of the Decontamination Effect on the Inner Chamber of Esco Celculture CO₂Incubator Using 90°C Moist Heat Decontamination Cycle

Singapore March 1, 2011 – Esco is pleased to announce that the Esco Celculture CO₂ 90°C decontamination cycle has been evaluated by Health Protection Agency (HPA) and was proven to be an effective method of deactivation of normally resistant fungi and bacterial spore Aspergillusbrasiliensis and Bacillus atrophaeus, and the vegetative cells Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermis, Enterobacter faecalis and Escherichia coli.

Moreover, for each of the test runs performed, no growth was observed from any of the seven test micro-organisms indicating that the 90°C decontamination cycle of the incubator is capable of deactivating high levels of biological decontamination.

The test was done by Health Protection Agency (HPA) in the UK to provide an integrated approach in protecting UK public health through the provision of support and advice to the NHS, local authorities, emergency services, other Arms Length Bodies, the Department of Health and the Devolved Administrations.

The said Celculture CO₂ incubator provided by Esco to HPA for the above mentioned purpose has been carefully tested to assess whether the decontamination cycle is able to deactivate a range of micro-organisms.

The decontamination cycle is comprised of a 2-hour heating up period, a 9-hour hold cycle at 90°C and a 3-hour cooling down period. During each cycle 12 Aspergillusbrasiliensis coupons, 12 Bacillus atrophaeus coupons, 12 Pseudomonas aeruginosa coupons, 12 Staphylococcus aureus coupons, 12 Staphylococcus epidermis coupons, 12 Enterobacter faecalis coupons and 12 Escherichia coli coupons were placed in four different locations within the incubator in order to fully challenge the device and to obtain precise reduction values.
